Is this program right for you?

Knee osteoarthritis does not have to mean giving up the things you enjoy. The program is designed for adults who have been told they have knee osteoarthritis, or who have had persistent knee pain for more than three months.

You might recognise this

  • Stairs are getting harder, especially first thing
  • You skip walks because of your knee
  • The knee stiffens after sitting
  • You were told “it’s wear and tear” and left without a plan

What the program gives you

  • A 60-minute assessment of your knee, strength and goals
  • A progressive plan built for your knee, not a generic sheet
  • Weekly supervised sessions, same physiotherapist every time
  • Strength and function tracked across the 12 weeks
Why exercise first? Australian clinical guidelines, including the RACGP guideline for knee osteoarthritis, recommend exercise as first-line care. In this program load is progressed gradually and kept within comfortable limits, and your plan is adjusted weekly based on how your knee responds.

No Gap* For most private health fund members. Your program sessions are billed through your private health fund (HICAPS item 505). With eligible physiotherapy extras cover, your rebate can cover the full $35 session fee, so there is no out-of-pocket gap. Your initial assessment is also billed through your health fund (item 500), and for members with eligible extras cover, that can mean little to no out-of-pocket cost too.

Private health rebates may apply, depending on your extras cover. Patients with a Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan are welcome; contact the clinic to discuss. No referral or scan needed to start. No upfront payment and no lock-in contract, so you simply pay as you go.

*Disclaimer: Gap-free or fully covered assessments and sessions are dependent on your individual private health insurance policy. To qualify for a gap-free session, your policy must include physiotherapy extras cover, have an eligible subsidy rate that meets or exceeds our special $35 program fee, and have remaining annual limits. We recommend checking directly with your health fund using HICAPS item codes 500 and 505 to verify your exact level of coverage before starting the program. This month’s No-Gap initial assessment offer is limited to the first 5 new patients who book.

Frequently asked questions

What is the No Gap Strong Knees Program?

One-on-one physio. No referral needed. Limited spots.

Who is the program for?

Adults who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, or who have had persistent knee pain for more than three months.

How much does the program cost?

The initial assessment (60 minutes) is normally $175, currently $115 for new patients while limited spots last, and for the first 5 new patients each month it is No Gap. Program sessions are then $35 each, which for most private health fund members with eligible physiotherapy extras cover is fully covered, so there is little to no out-of-pocket gap.*

Do I need a referral?

No, you can book directly. A GP referral is only relevant if you are claiming under a Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan; contact the clinic to discuss.

Is exercise safe if I have knee osteoarthritis?

Yes, when it is prescribed and progressed appropriately. Australian clinical guidelines recommend exercise as first-line care for knee osteoarthritis, and in this program load is increased gradually and kept within comfortable limits.

What happens at the first assessment?

A 60-minute appointment where your physiotherapist assesses your knee, strength, movement and goals, explains what is driving your symptoms, and outlines your 12-week plan.

Do I need an X-ray or scan first?

No. You can start without imaging. If you have existing scans, bring them to your assessment.

Where is the program run?

At Tensegrity Sports Clinics St Leonards. Phone (02) 8964 6698 or book online.
