Stopped running, lifting or getting through a workday comfortably because something hurts? Chiropractic care in Willoughby is available every Friday at Tensegrity Sports Clinics Willoughby, inside Live Well Personal Training at Upper, 14/175 Lower Gibbes Street, Roseville. Jason Lam (Chiropractor) consults there from 12 to 6pm. New patients are welcome, so your first visit starts with a thorough assessment.
What does chiropractic care at Tensegrity involve?
Care follows the same model at every Tensegrity Sports Clinics location. First, a thorough assessment. Then hands-on treatment. After that, exercise rehabilitation, so your progress holds once you leave the room. In short, the aim is to get you back to what moves you, not just to quieten the pain for a week.
Many people think chiropractors only treat backs. In fact, chiropractic care at Tensegrity covers muscles, joints and movement across the whole body.
What we help with at Willoughby
Common reasons people book include:
- Lower back pain and neck pain
- Shoulder, hip and knee pain
- Sports injuries, such as ankle sprains, hamstring strains and overuse injuries
- Neck and upper back tension from long days at a desk
- Some types of headache linked to neck stiffness and muscle tension
Some people come in with no pain at all. Instead, they have a goal, such as moving more freely, returning to a sport or training with less stiffness. We work with those goals too.
According to healthdirect Australia, spinal manipulation and other manual therapies may help some people with low back pain, as well as some types of neck pain and headache, especially when combined with exercise. That is why exercise is part of every plan.
How we treat
Every plan starts with finding out why the problem is there, not only where it hurts. So Jason looks at how you move, how your joints and muscles respond to testing, and how your work, training and daily habits load your body. Treatment is then matched to you:
- Spinal manipulation and mobilisation. Some people prefer a traditional adjustment, while others prefer gentle mobilisation. You choose what you are comfortable with.
- Soft tissue therapy. This includes myofascial release, trigger point therapy and instrument-assisted soft tissue work.
- Exercise rehabilitation. You get corrective, mobility and strength exercises to keep doing between visits.
We also explain what we find in plain language. That way, you understand your body, know what to do at home, and can take an active part in your recovery.
Meet Jason Lam
Jason Lam is a Chiropractor and Clinical Director at Tensegrity Sports Clinics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology, a Graduate Diploma in Chiropractic and a Master of Chiropractic, and has more than a decade of experience in musculoskeletal care.
A disc injury when he was young shaped the way Jason practises. Because of it, he focuses on long-term injury management rather than short-term relief. Outside the clinic, he enjoys tennis, travel and photography.
Jason also consults at our St Leonards clinic during the week. So if Friday does not suit, you can see him there instead, and your patient file stays with you.
What happens at your first appointment?
Allow up to 60 minutes for your first visit. Jason starts by asking about your pain, your health history and what you want to get back to. Next comes a physical assessment, including movement, orthopaedic and neurological tests where needed. He explains each test before he starts, and he always asks for your consent.
Once the assessment is done, Jason talks you through what he thinks is going on and what may be contributing. If chiropractic care suits your condition, he outlines a plan, a likely timeframe and how you will track progress. Treatment often begins on the same day. However, if another practitioner or a GP would be a better fit, he will tell you and help with the next step.
If you have scans or reports, bring them along. Also, wear clothes you can move in comfortably.
