If you’re arranging care for yourself or an older parent, cost is usually the first worry. Here’s the good news: under the government’s Support at Home program, physiotherapy is fully funded — $0 to you — when it’s part of your approved care plan. This guide explains what that means and how to use it for physio at home.
What is Support at Home?
Support at Home is the Australian Government’s aged-care program that replaced Home Care Packages on 1 November 2025. It funds older Australians to get the care and support they need to stay living safely and independently in their own home — including clinical care like physiotherapy.
Services are grouped into categories. Physiotherapy and other allied health sit in the Clinical Care category — and that category is where the cost barrier disappears.
Is physiotherapy really free under Support at Home?
Yes — when it’s clinically approved as part of your care plan, physiotherapy under Clinical Care has no participant contribution. You pay nothing for it, regardless of your income or assets. The government pays the provider directly. This is a real change from the old Home Care Packages, where the cost of therapy competed with everything else in your budget.
The one condition worth understanding: the physiotherapy needs to be part of your assessed care plan. It isn’t unlimited “anything you like” — it’s the care a clinician agrees you need to meet your goals. In practice, for most people who would benefit from physio, that’s a straightforward conversation.
How many sessions can I have?
There’s no fixed cap on physiotherapy sessions. Your care coordinator works with you and your physiotherapist to agree what’s clinically appropriate for your goals — whether that’s an intensive block after a fall or surgery, or ongoing visits to hold your strength and independence. The plan flexes to what you actually need.
What about chiropractic and massage?
Physiotherapy is the service funded under Support at Home Clinical Care. Tensegrity Home also offers in-home chiropractic and remedial massage, which are covered through other pathways — DVA for eligible veterans, Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management plan, private health, or self-pay. If you’d like a combination of care, we’ll map out exactly what’s funded and how.
How do I start using my funding for home physio?
Under Support at Home, one registered provider holds your funding and your care plan, and arranges your services. So the path depends on where you are:
- Already with a provider? Ask your care coordinator to include in-home physiotherapy in your plan, and to arrange it through Tensegrity Home. We already deliver for aged-care providers across Sydney and can work with yours.
- Not on Support at Home yet? The first step is registering and being assessed through My Aged Care (myagedcare.gov.au or 1800 200 422). Once you have a plan, physiotherapy can be part of it.
- Not sure where you stand? Get in touch and we’ll talk you through it — including whether physio, chiropractic, massage or a mix is right, and which funding covers what.
A quick note on timing
Support at Home is still settling in, and indicative price caps for some services apply from 1 July 2026. None of this changes the headline for clients: physiotherapy in your care plan is funded at $0 to you. If anything affects your specific situation, we’ll flag it when we confirm your plan.
